My work deals with absurdity, dumbness, disenchantment, cult and decay. I am interested in the ways television, radio, web and entertainment culture affect our social and individual identities. I am also intrigued by the position of painting among all the other forms of visual media that surrounds us, and I believe that visual art, in its institutional format, is evolving away from the general public.

I use expressive and childlike gestures, as well as alterations and destructions of painted layers to build a distorted and caricaturised portrait of the demons of our cultural time. In revealing the ”making of” that led to the final product, I wish to inform the viewer of the mixture between rational and intuitive processes that are hidden under the surface. Thus, I want the audience to be aware of the painting’s history, with the hope that a better understanding can improve the connection or the communication between the artist and the public.

The Cheaper Show No. 10 – Artist Announcement

Categories EventPosted on

We (The Cheaper Show) would like to thank all of the artists who submitted work for The Cheaper Show No. 10. It was an incredibly difficult task narrowing down the list from 1200+ to just 200.

Due to the overwhelming quality and quantity of submissions this year, for the first time ever we’ve published an Honourable Mentions list. These artists showed exemplary talent and promise, and we’re sorry we couldn’t include your work in this year’s show.

Congrats to Corri-Lynn Tetz, Nadia Moss, Patryk Stasieczek & Philippe Chabot.
