Soft pastels and coloured pencils drawings by Toronto-based artist Winnie Truong.

In recent years Winnie Truong has developed a body of work that generates a dialogue between beauty, hair and the drawn line through large-scale coloured pencil drawings on paper. Focusing on the subject of hair, she imagines it’s new possibilities beyond ornament and towards living objects and environments.

While Truong’s work captures the tensions between hair, beauty and the grotesque, her work also expresses personal feelings of ambivalence towards femininity and the female form. At the core of her art practice, she views her drawings as an equal balance of visual and visceral experience; a final product on paper and an immersive physical activity that takes place in the artist’s studio during production.
